Pampas and San Antonio de Areco

Pampas!" Dit kom jag ridande en afton ........ för jag ville dansa tango"!
Ja, det kanske jag ville men jag var där för att njuta av vackra hästar och ett besök i en liten stad 113 kilometer utanför Buenos Aires, San Antonio de Areco. Där kan man gå in till olika hantverkare som gör helt fantastiska silverarbeten, läderarbeten och underbart god choklad som jag fick smaka på tills jag inte kunde stoppa i mig mer! Besöket i denna lilla charmiga stad från 1730 avslutades på ett gaucho-cafe med fantastiska smörgåsar och och en kall öl, som svalkade gott!

Pampas! horses, horses and horses and gauchos as well! San Antonio de Areco is a charming city 113 km from Buenos Aires and founded 1730. Each year in November they celebrate Tradition Day a gaucho celebration. You can visit stores with beautiful handicrafts made of silver and leather. There is a small lovely factory and store selling chocolate which I love! And I got to taste as much as I wanted! Paradise! The visit ended with a delicious sandwich and a cold beer at a gaucho cafe! Perfect for this hot day in January!

The Colon Theatre in Buenos Aires

Is the Colon Theatre the most beautiful of all theatres in the world? That is what Mikhail Baryshnikov thinks. And Sweden's own Birgit Nilson fell in love with this theatre as well. She said:"..the ideal acoustics and the knowing and enthusiastic public all this combined is really unique, and therefore for me the Teatro Colon is number one..."
And I myself enjoyed the tour of the theatre a lot. It is really possible to envision all the famous artists of the world that has performed here, the gala dressed audience, the whole atmosphere of this famous theatre, rated among the 5 best operahouses in the world when it comes to acoustics.
And I was so happy to hear that Gustavo Dudamel will again perform here this coming season (March to December). He is honorary conductor of the Gothenburg Symphony in Gothenburg, Sweden (my native country). And recently named Musical America's 2013 Musician of the Year!

 

Back to Colon. Upon entering the theatre I was so impressed by the beautiful staircase in white Carrara marble, the columns made in reddish Verona marble and yellow marble from Siena, all imported from Europe! The two lions that guard the staircase are made of beautiful Portuguese marble. It really was amazing, the Auditorium, the Galley with the busts of our big composers like Bethooven, Wagner, Bellini and more, the Ceilings with beautiful paintings, the Golden Hall, the Stage that is 34,50 m by 35,25 m and one of the largest in the world! And the very splendid central chandelier with 753 bulbs and weighs approximately 5 tons. If you are in Buenos Aires do not miss this beauty and maybe you are lucky to attend a concert, opera or a ballet!

 

Ett besök på El Teatro Colon är väl värt din tid! Nyligen restaurerad visar den upp sin fantastiska glans med marmor av bästa sort, statyer, kandelabrar, sammetsklädda stolar, en av världens största scener, guldplaterade marmorpelare och mycket mer. Vår Birgit Nilson ansåg detta operahus vara nummer 1 och vilka scener över hela världen har inte besökts av henne? Det är nästan med andäktighet man guidas runt i denna överdådiga byggnad som invigdes för andra gången den 25 maj 1908 med operan Aida av Giuseppe Verdi. Operahuset stod först färdigt 1857 men mot slutet av århundradet behövde man renovera, en process som tog cirka 20 år. Teatern var stängd mellan 2006 och fram till 2010 återigen p g a renovering. Besök Teatro Colon om du är i Buenos Aires, du ångrar dig inte! 

Buenos Aires, Argentina

A visit to San Isidro Horse Track is very exciting, especially when you know the owner of a horse that will race! Race after race, people cheering or cursing, happy or devastated! But what I liked the most was to watch these beautiful thoroughbreds, how they were prepared for the race, how they were displayed before the race and then the excitement when the race started. And we were behind the "scene" to see what happened after the race and this is quite an industry. We met the jockey, the veterinarian and the trainer. I do not know anything about horses but really I was intrigued to learn more!
Dinner at Don Jose in Martinez area after the race with a lot of discussions about what happened and so on! Excellent food and I had Linguado con Alcaparras. This was a dinner that lasted past midnight. And when we left the place was still filled with guests! This is Buenos Aires on a Saturday night!


Eftersom jag inget kan om hästar var ett besök på San Isidro Horse Track verkligen en spännande och intressant upplevelse för mig. Ägaren till hästen som tävlade är en god vän och därmed hade vi tillträde till så mycket runtomkring och fick så mycket information om hela denna industri som hästkapplöpning är! Att sedan avsluta kvällen med en underbar fiskrätt på restaurant Don Jose gjorde dagen perfekt. Lördag kväll i Buenos Aires och vi gick ut från restauranten vid midnatt, inget konstigt här och många gäster satt kvar och njöt av maten, sällskapet och kvällen!

San Isidro has so much more than the Race Track to offer. It is a beautiful town with old constructions of various architectural styles and the Cathedral is splendid in its neo gothic style, built in 1898. Many houses belonged to the aristocratic families of Buenos Aires and today houses a school or a hotel or a museum.

San Isidro är en charmig stad med en mycket vacker katedral i nygotisk stil. Flera av husen i staden är konstverk och visar prov på flera olika stilar. Husen ägdes av rika familjer men flera av dessa villor är idag skola, musem eller t o m hotell.

New year, new expectations, new wishes and resolutions!
So for me this year......well, do I ever succeed to keep my list of resolutions and follow them? Not really!
This new year I will just try to live here and now and follow this wisdom words from Buddha: The secret of health for both mind and body is not to mourn for the past, nor worry about the future or anticipate troubles, but to live in the present moment wisely and earnestly.

Portugal

I was excited; I was going to Portugal in September! Such sweet memories from visiting the country and the Algarve coast in the late 80’s. But I could not find my small fishing villages, the small bars where the fisherman drank their bica (coffee) and Macieira (brandy) early in the morning.

I remember the markets where we bought the delicious strawberries and so much more. Today Algarve is different for sure. There are tourists, tourists everywhere. The charm according to my opinion is gone to a large extent!

But of course there are still some beautiful spots, like Villamoura, Castro Marim close to the Spanish border that offers you a trip through local history and heritage, from the 13^th century up to our times.

It will take more than one week that was the length of my trip this time to discover the genuine Portugal of the south!

For a couple of days I enjoyed Cascais close to Lisboa and the beautiful hotel Villa Italia. And the food at the restaurant Mar do Inferno by the boardwalk! They serve fresh fish, seafood, and wine to die for!

Jag hade inte besökt Portugal och Algarvekusten sedan slutet på 80-talet. Oj vad spännande det skulle bli, att få leta efter mina små fiskebyar, barerna där fiskarna tidigt på morgonen drack sin bica (kaffe) och en liten konjak! Marknaderna där vi köpte jordgubbar och mycket mer.

Idag är Algarve annorlunda så klart! Turister överallt och charmen har enligt min mening till stor del försvunnit.

Men naturligtvis finns det attraktiva platser än idag som Villamoura, Castro Marim, som ligger nära spanska gränsen. Man vandrar genom historien här från 1200-talet och fram tills idag.

Naturligtvis tar det mer än en vecka, vilket var tiden jag hade på mig, att upptäcka de små smultronställena man vill se och som kanske fortfarande finns kvar!

I ett par dagar njöt jag av Cascais, som ligger alldeles utanför Lissabon. Inbokad på det vackra hotellet Villa Italia kan man inte ha det mycket bättre. Mar do Inferno är en underbar restaurant som ligger vid strandpromenaden och som serverar färsk fisk, skaldjur och gott vin som man bara njuter helhjärtat av!

What a magical night on Friday July 27!

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band on Ullevi Arena in Gothenburg, breaking all records!

A concert that lasted almost 4 hours, on a beautiful Swedish summer night with 65,000 plus fans!

And on a rainy Saturday he made it again. And he stopped the rain!!! And 67,000 fans enjoyed the next evening’s performance!

Bruce we love you!

From not having a ticket to the concert we all of a sudden were sharing our happiness with so many others in front of the ticket boots at Ullevi Arena! My brother in law and myself we had the desirable tickets in our hands! And 45 minutes into the concert we entered a glowing, electrified, energetic arena with a fantastic Boss and E Street Band performing for us 3 h and 43 minutes! The evening was magical! And of course the last song was Twist and Shout!!!!

Att gå på Bruce Springsteen konsert är något alldeles speciellt!

I Göteborg på Ullevi, en magisk fredagkväll i slutet av juli! Vi fick till slut våra biljetter efter att ha stått i kö till biljettkassan 45 minuter efter konserten börjat! Men vi njöt i 3 timmar till av the Boss. När vi går in på arenan och vi ser hela härligheten, över 65 000 andra fans, en magical Boss med sitt band och där min svägerska som kommer dansande mot oss, lyckan var fullkomlig! Min svägerska, min svåger och jag och några lyckliga till runt om oss diggade och dansade och njöt av en helt magisk kväll med en av de största! Tack än en gång Bruce och E Street Band!
